Composition, in photography, is how one places a certain object the way he/she does, and how they use variety in arrangement of the different elements and principles of art and design. Basically, composition is the way you shoot a picture.
Composition is very important in photography. It adds details and interest to a picture. Composition can take a completely boring scene and turn it into something beautiful and a real work of art.
The 10 Rules of Composition:
Simplify the Scene. Attempt to clarify the focal point of the picture.
Fill In The Frame. Make sure there is not too much empty space, add zoom appropriately or when needed
Aspect Ratio. Keep changing the orientation or the way you take your picture, horizontally or vertically
Avoid The Middle. The middle does not always have to be the focal point, position your picture so that it is aesthetically balanced
Leading Lines. Use the elements and principles of art and design. Have your usage of lines leading up to the subject of your photograph
Use Diagonals. Horizontal and vertical lines are to cliché. Use diagonals to add a new dimension.
Space To Move. When taking an action shot, we like to predict where the picture would be if it kept moving. Leave some space for the viewer to predict
Backgrounds. Be aware of what is happening in the background. Make sure it complements the subject or doesn’t distract from the subject.
Creative With Colors. Sometimes monochromatic is the way the go but other times, experiment with colors. Find out what goes well with what. Make good use of the primary colors.
Breaking the Rules. Adjust to your needs and produce a creative picture with your rules!
